Loose dogs an issue for postal carriers

Michelle Ryan knows the feel of a dog’s teeth sinking into her calf.

Four times, the 13-year veteran of the U.S. Postal Service has been bitten while delivering mail in Gothenburg.

None were severe enough to seek medical attention, but serious enough to break skin and prompt her to ensure the dogs were current on their rabies vaccinations, Ryan said.

“There seem to be one to two on each route that are aggressive,” Ryan said. “A lot of it I see as carelessness of owners.”
