For the Love of the Game

Some love affairs begin at first site. For Tot Holmes, his love of baseball didn’t immediately happen. When it took, though, it lasted a life time.

Holmes grew up during World War II. Baseball had disappeared from the Midwestern landscape as players left to serve their county.

More than 500 professional players put down their bats and gloves and joined the Armed Services. The quality of baseball suffered until the end of the war.
