Gothenburg childcare providers up their game

Quality environments for early childhood is so much more than placing them in a room with other children and watching them play together, according to Allison Jonas, director of teaching and learning at Gothenburg Public Schools. Jonas also serves as special education director, and said it is about interacting with them and developing the whole child, which is not always easy but worth the outcome.

Recently, four Gothenburg childcare providers participated in an on-going, rigorous training and on-site coaching program to learn about the Pyramid Model. The three year program teaches providers how to implement the Pyramid Model into their childcare settings. According to Jonas, the providers who have taken that extra step to ensure quality childcare for the community are Building Blocks, Learning Adventures, Mary Streeter, and Suzanne Holmes.
