Brady school board fills all teaching, coaching positions

Some classes reassigned.

With a little rearranging, the Brady school board filled all open teaching positions and offered new coaching contracts during a special meeting Monday night.

The board approved hiring Sandy Burke to teach business and computer classes half time as well as serve as the guidance counselor an additional quarter time.

Burke, a 1983 BHS graduate, takes over the business classes previously taught by Robbi McKenney.

With the implementation of the one-to-one computer initiative, McKenney will become a full-time technology coordinator.

Burke will take on part of the guidance counselor duties previously done by Becky Simants.

Simants will continue to teach elementary special education as well as having some guidance counselor responsibilities.

The board also approved a contract for T.J. Nielsen, a recent Doane College graduate originally from Iowa.

Nielsen will teach K-12 physical education classes. He replaces Darren Tobey, who has taken a position at Southern Valley Public Schools.

Superintendent Bill Porter said he intends to add the activities director responsibilities to Nielsen’s contract as an extra duty assignment.

The junior high English and journalism classes have been reassigned to Cindy Kuklis. They were taught by Marci Knudsen who is moving to Wyoming.

After discussing work agreements for coaches who are not certified staff members, the board agreed to offer three contracts.

Bob Frederickson will be the head football coach for the Eagles next fall. He served as a volunteer on the coaching staff last season and worked as a para-educator and substitute teacher in the school.

Lance Arterburn, assistant girls basketball coach last season, will take over the program as head coach next winter. He will be assisted by Darcee Miller.

All other coaching assignments remain the same.
