GHS basketball, golf teams see head coach changes
Koehler, Graham take positions.
Roger Koehler isn’t new to the coaching scene. In fact, he will be recognized next month by the Nebraska Coaches Association for 25 years of service.
It’s been awhile, though, since Koehler has had the reins of a program as head coach.
During the regular monthly school board meeting on Monday, District 20 officials approved extra duty assignments for the 2010-11 school year including appointing Koehler as head boys basketball coach.
He takes over for Kent Koehn, who will continue to teach math in Gothenburg but will not coach.
Koehler’s experience in Gothenburg began when he was the assistant girls basketball coach for two seasons starting in 1985.
Koehler then served as head girls basketball coach for seven years.
Other coaching positions he has held include assistant boys basketball, junior high boys basketball, assistant football, co-head football coach for eight years and assistant track for 14 years.
Koehler will be assisted by Chris Lecher and Eric Albers, two newcomers to Swede high school sports.
The other GHS head coaching change puts golf pro Don Graham of Wild Horse Golf Club at the head of the boys program.
Graham has been at Wild Horse since 2000 and has served as an assistant junior high basketball coach in Gothenburg for the past two seasons.
He takes over the Swede boys from Jim Henke, who will continue to coach the girls golf team.
