Gothenburg dominates Lexington Minutemaids
Everything went Gothenburg’s way in a 10-0 home win over Lexington Thursday.
The Minutemaids’ lost their starting pitcher in the first inning due to an injury, but the way the Swedes were playing it probably wouldn’t have made any difference.
“We had a very good game, maybe one of the better games we’ve played in a long time,” coach Roger Neujahr said. “We had good pitching, good defense and very good hitting.”
Karen Franzen’s double gave Gothenburg a 2-0 lead in the first inning.
The Swedes added three more runs in the second. Two walks and a single loaded the bases before Payton Prall scored on a wild pitch.
Shay Wear and Brittyn Munster each scored on sacrifice flies.
Gothenburg doubled its lead with a five-run fourth inning.
Consecutive one-out singles by Munster, Roni Putnam and KaTrina Winter got things rolling.
Franzen again drove in two runs with her second double.
Another run came home on a sac fly while Alisha Ballmer’s RBI single ended the rally.
Jordyn Haake went the distance on the mound with a three-hit shutout.
She fanned six batters and didn’t give up a walk.
