Proper flag disposal planned by Lions

Raffle, matinee among activities.

Gothenburg Lions will be sponsoring their annual Flag Disposal Ceremony at the KOA Campground on Monday starting at 7 p.m.

The ceremony will be led by Lion president Syd Kite. Each flag presented for retirement will be carefully laid across the fire.

Anyone who would wish to retire a flag and include it in the ceremony should either bring it to KOA, south of the interstate, or give it to any member of the Lions Club. Flags that are no longer serviceable will be accepted right up until the ceremony starts.

Interested members of the public are welcome to attend the event, which will be followed with bratwurst cooked on site and served free to attendees.

Following the ceremony, the Lions will draw the winners of the annual food raffle at the KOA store. Food raffle chairman Shane Gruber will oversee the drawing for this year’s prizes that range from $25 to the top prize of $200. Tickets are remaining on sale up until the day of the drawing.

The Lions Club also annually hosts a children’s matinee movie at the Sun Theatre. This year, ‘Toy Story 3” will be shown on Saturday, Dec. 18. The showing will start at 1;30 p.m. and admission is free.

The Lions are expecting Santa Claus to appear at the end of the film when he will give out gifts of candy to the young people.

Doors will open from 12:45 p.m. Lions will man the concessions booth, with all proceeds going to the Gothenburg Community Playhouse.
