Board renews Porter’s contract
Superintendent declines raise.
There could be some tough financial times ahead for small school districts such as Brady.
“I think if you’re going to ask people to make sacrifices, you should set an example,” Brady superintendent Bill Porter told the school board Monday night.
That’s why Porter refused a salary increase the last time his contract was renewed and did so again for the next school year.
The school board voted during its regular monthly session to renew Porter’s contract for the 2011-12 school year at the same salary he received when he was hired in 2009.
He will earn $75,000 plus benefits in his third year as superintendent.
With budget uncertainty at the state level, Porter said the district cannot predict what kind of cuts it may be forced to make in the coming year.
During the meeting, new board member Matt Hatch was officially seated and Lisa Diehl and Mary Ellen Mann were reinstated after being elected to four-year terms in November.
Board members also selected officers and appointed committees.
Diehl will continue as the board president and Marge Spencer will serve as vice president.
Harry Haythorn was selected as the board secretary and school bookkeeper Ashley Lydic will remain the district treasurer.
In addition, the school board adopted a resolution which names an advisory committee for essential financial planning.
