Brady boys split weekend games
The Brady boys learned what a vast difference four full quarters of teamwork basketball can make.
The Eagles got a total team effort during Friday night’s 57-51 win over Hayes Center (5-8).
“The guys seemed to be in sync better than we have been all year,” said coach Rich Britten. “We had the right people doing what they needed to do at the right time.”
The painful part of the lesson, though, came Saturday night in Arnold when the Eagles fell to South Loup 70-47 after being tied at halftime.
“For some reason they started questioning each other, not helping each other,” Britten said. “It was a totally different feel from one day to the next.”
Friday night the Eagles were aggressive on both ends of the court.
Brady jumped out to a 20-10 lead in the first quarter and carried a 29-18 advantage into halftime.
“Kyle (Pohlman) was making some big shots and Brad (Ward) helped us out a lot,” Britten said. “And Tyler (Egenberger) played outstanding defense on Hayes Center’s big kid (Adam Lawson). We were balanced and crisp and fun to watch.”
The Cardinals made a run in the fourth period but it wasn’t enough to take away Brady’s momentum.
Pohlman and Sawyer Burke finished with 18 points each while Ward added a season-high 12 points.
The Eagles continued to roll through the first half of Saturday’s game against the Bobcats, managing to tie the Class C-2 combination 29-29 at halftime.
