Poor shooting again at Cozad

COZAD—The same nemesis that has plagued the Gothenburg girls all season returned to the court with the Swedes at Cozad Thursday night.

“We just couldn’t put the ball in the hole,” said Gothenburg coach Tim Peterson.

The Swedes led 5-4 at the end of the first quarter on a three-pointer by Karen Franzen and a bucket from Taylor Wolf.

The Swedes were still ahead 10-6 with five minutes to go in the first half.

But when Cozad got the upper hand after Carly Henry hit her third of four three-pointers midway through the second period, the Swedes couldn’t get a handle on the game again.

The Haymakers took the rivalry contest 38-20.

“We were up 5-4 after the first quarter and could only manufacture 15 points the rest of the game,” Peterson said. “Defensively we didn’t play bad. Sure it was ugly but it was ugly on their side too.”

Trailing 17-10 at halftime, the Swedes were unable to score at all in the third quarter. They went 0-for-11 shooting in the period and didn’t even make a trip to the free throw line.
