Gothenburg youth receives HIKE donation
Some kids need a little help hearing.
Gothenburg’s Job’s Daughters Bethel 28 had a special celebration on Feb. 26 in honor of a local youth.
Brendan Libich, 9-year-old son of Kara and Travis Libich of Gothenburg, is deaf in one ear.
HIKE—Hearing Impaired Kids Endowment—is a nationwide program through Job’s Daughters which raises money to help fund hearing devices for young people.
The Libichs had already received a check from Job’s Daughters International to help purchase a hearing device for Brendan but the local chapter wanted to celebrate Brendan’s success.
More than $15,000 has been raised for HIKE recipients in Nebraska this past year. Bethel 28 has contributed more than $2,000 in the past two years to help the philanthropic project.
Special guests at the ceremony besides the Libich family were Job’s Daughters state officers grand guardian Cindy Bartling and associate grand guardian Jeff Makris from Sidney.
Also attending were Miss Nebraska Job’s Daughter Katie Hergenrader from North Platte; Miss Congeniality Courtney Smith from Alliance; and state Job’s Daughters HIKE coordinators Kyndal Holmes of Gothenburg, Kyra Holloway of North Platte and Rachel Linch of Lexington.
Bethel 28 members performing the special ceremony were Holmes, Kendra Humphrey, Carlin Daharsh, Blayr McMichael, Brianna Richey, Alexis Bacon, Amanda McMichael, Becca Else, Gabi Daharsh, Lauryn Cardenas, Hailey Sabin, Morgan Cardenas and Megan Portiner.
A reception followed the ceremony.
Anyone wishing to donate to the HIKE fund or receive information about applying for hearing devices may contact any local Job’s Daughter member.
