Basketball players earn all-conference honors
Three Swede boys and two girls have earned post-season basketball honors from coaches of the seven Southwest Conference schools.
All-conference selections were made during a meeting of winter coaches in Broken Bow on March 16.
Minden dominated both the girls and boys teams earning the highest number of selections on both.
Four Minden boys and six girls received recognition including three boys and four girls on the first team.
For the Swedes, junior post player Korey Ahlenstorf was named to the boys all-conference second team.
Ahlenstorf finished the 2010-11 season with 8.8 points per game and was the Swedes’ leading rebounder with 144 for the season, or 7.2 per game. He also dished out the most assists with 55.
Swede senior Cody Ostergard and sophomore Logan Koehler earned third-team recognition.
Ostergard was Gothenburg’s leading scorer with 220 points or 10.5 per game. He also earned honorable mention from the Lincoln Journal Star for the newspaper’s Class C-1 all-state teams.
Koehler finished the year with 130 rebounds and 38 blocked shots.
On the girls side, Swede seniors Shelby Eggleston and Karen Franzen were named to the SWC all-conference third team.
Eggleston found her way into the Swedes all-time Top 10 chart this year with 72 steals in the season.
She was also the team’s second leading scorer with 120 points. The guard also had 84 rebounds and 20 assists.
Franzen, a post player, was Gothenburg’s second leading rebounder with 95 boards and scored 69 points with 12 blocked shots.
