Eagle girls win Bobcat Invite, boys second

ARNOLD—Cold and damp conditions at Arnold on Friday didn’t make great track and field weather but the elements didn’t deter Brady athletes from achieving some personal best marks during the Bobcat Invite.

The Eagle girls came home with the championship trophy and six gold medals.

The boys finished runner-up in the team competition with three individual wins.

“As large as this meet was, we expected good competition but there were several teams we don’t know anything about so I wasn’t sure how things might come out,” said Brady coach Rich Britten.

It was a break-out meet for freshman Lexi Franzen. She won both distance races and finished second in the 800-meter as well as running on the winning 4x800 relay.

“Medaling in four events will only boost her confidence,” Britten said.

Fellow freshman Valerie Most, a versatile athlete for the Eagles, won the high jump by clearing her personal best this year at 4 foot, 9 inches. She also finished second in the pole vault and ran on the fourth-place 4x100 relay.

Senior Taina Taullie set a new personal best mark in the pole vault as well by clearing 7-4 for the gold medal.

The Eagles took the top three places in the event after two vaulters from other schools passed a couple of heights and then didn’t clear the bar on their first three attempts.

“That’s the chance you take when you pass,” Britten said.
