Donated school land to be seeded, watered
Board accepts bid for larger scoreboard.
Land given to the Gothenburg Public Schools Foundation, and leased to the school, will be seeded and watered with an underground sprinkler system.
The area will also be fenced.
Before approving a list of summer projects, District 20 school board members Monday night decided what they wanted to temporarily do with the property which is across the street from the school on Avenue I.
Installation of a sprinkler system, including some reused equipment, is estimated to cost $12,400.
Superintendent Mike Teahon said ideas that came from a brainstorming session involving community leaders and the public were three- to 10 years down the road.
Board members also decided to replace the football scoreboard with a larger, 25-foot board for $13,169 without installation.
School and board officials met with the Cindermates organization to discuss options. Because the new scoreboard is expandable to post track times at some point, the fund-raising track organization has agreed to help raise money for installation.
Another facility matter involves the former 100R building north of town that the district owns.
Teahon said an insurance company agreed to pay $18,800 for claims the schools sent in for water damage from burst pipes.
Two heat pumps were replaced, new carpet installed and a new ceiling put in the mechanical room.
The superintendent said he and the facilities committee is exploring the possibility of liquidating the property.
A last agenda item was a 30-minute closed session in which the board discussed upcoming negotiations with the Gothenburg Education Association.
No action was taken upon reconvening.
