County approves museum grant application
LEXINGTON—The Dawson County Historical Museum needs a paved parking lot and upgraded meeting rooms to make both more handicap accessible.
Community Development Block Grant funds from the Nebraska Department of Economic Development would make that possible.
Museum director Barb Vondras and Dawson Area Development community development coordinator Deb Jensen asked the Dawson County commissioners on Friday to act as a pass-through agency for grant money if funding is approved.
Jensen told the county board that limited availability of grant funds makes the CDBG award a competitive process.
She said there are many projects the museum would like to accomplish but limiting the application to handicap accessibility narrows the field more than a general construction request would.
There would be no cost to the county, Vondras said.
The application requests $135,960 from the state with the museum matching with $40,320.
If awarded, the grant would come in the next budget year.
