Eagle teams finish second at Stapleton Invite
ARNOLD—Four outstanding performances for four gold medals earned Brady senior Kyle Pohlman the Dave Blevin Memorial Outstanding Athlete Award during the Stapleton Invite at Arnold on Friday.
Pohlman took first in the 100-meter dash, the long jump and the triple jump as well as running on the winning 4x100 relay.
“Kyle had an extraordinary day,” said coach Rich Britten.
In the long jump, Pohlman broke his own record set earlier this spring going 22-0. His previous best was 21-10.25.
Pohlman came back with another stellar effort of 43-11.75 in the triple jump, more than a foot farther than his previous best and about 6 inches from the school record.
“He really sailed out there,” Britten said. “I’m not sure where it came from but it’s a good time to be hitting your best.”
The Eagle boys finished second to St. Pat’s in the team race with a total of five gold medals.
Fellow senior Brad Ward earned the other win in the high jump clearing his best so far this year at 6-2.
Ward was also a member of the 4x100 relay team that finished just a tenth of a second from the school record in 45.9 seconds.
“My watch said 45.79 which when rounded up ties the school record,” Britten said. “The official who was timing had 45.87 seconds.”
Other members of the relay were Christian Arterburn and Sawyer Burke.
On the girls side, Brady also finished second to St. Pat’s with only one gold medal and six silvers.
Senior Taina Taullie took first in the pole vault by clearing her personal record at 8-0.
She competed at the state meet in the event last year.
