Swede golfers win triangular against Cozad, Broken Bow
COZAD—Gothenburg golf coach Jim Henke hoped his girls used a triangular at the Cozad Country Club as a warm up to the conference meet.
The Swedes played against Cozad and Broken Bow on Sept. 29, defeating both SWC opponents with a team total of 225.
“A lot of our girls had not played at Cozad before and it showed,” Henke said. “There was some indecision about club selection and proper direction so we hope the experience proved valuable.”
Senior Haley Scheidt led the Swedes with a nine-hole score of 53 to earn the top medal.
“She has shown good improvement recently,” Henke said.
Sidney Thompson and Anna Boson shot 56 and 57 respectively, followed by Elizabeth Graham at 59.
“Liz, Jourdan (Matthies) and Heidi (Teahon) all had some struggles early in their rounds,” Henke said.
Swede junior varsity player Saraid Baca shot the low score of the day at 50 but Henke said reserve scores were skewed.
“They teed off from the very front tee boxes,” he said, “while the varsity players teed off from the second box, changing the distances they had to play each hole.”
Cozad finished with a team score of 242 while Broken Bow, hampered by illness, did not have enough golfers to earn a team total.
