U.S. Army Corps of Engineers officials were in town Tuesday to survey areas that could be damaged by flooding.

Their findings will be presented during a public meeting Wednesday (today) at 1:15 p.m. at city hall.

Administrator Bruce Clymer said city officials requested assistance from the Nebraska Emergency Management Agency to help determine potential flood prevention.

Corps officials were aided by the Dawson County surveyor in gathering elevation information to be compiled with projected flows from the Platte River .

“They will determine whether or not Gothenburg will have potential flooding issues in the coming weeks,” Clymer said.

National Weather Service officials predicted the Platte to rise to about eight feet by early Friday. Flood stage is 7.5 feet. On Tuesday morning, the stage was 7.8 feet at Brady’s north channel.
