TALL JOB: Workers from Frisbie Construction Co., Inc. of Gypsum, KS, began installing a custom-made distributor atop the All Points Cooperative grain elevator on July 20. All Points president and CEO Ed Foster said Tuesday the crew was putting on spouts. Work is expected to be finished in two to three weeks, Foster said. Then officials will operate the new equipment to make sure it’s working properly, especially with soybean and corn harvest beginning in a couple of months. The distributor, which circulates grain throughout the elevator, was badly damaged in an explosion on Dec. 29, 2010. Officials had just completed a $6 million expansion project when an earlier explosion rocked the grain-handling business in November of 2008. Additional reconstruction cost about $7 million. Foster said he wasn’t sure of the cost of the most recent reconstruction project because claims were sent to the insurance company.
