Boarders raising money through pizza sales.

Efforts to raise money for a skate park in Gothenburg have been resurrected.

Through the weekend of Oct. 24-25, skateboard enthusiasts are selling Little Caesar’s pizzas and other items like salad kits and cookie dough.

An account for donations for the park has also been set up at Gothenburg State Bank under Gothenburg Skate Park.

Curt Dachtler, the father of a skateboarding teen, said he thinks a skate park is still a reality.

“We’re hoping to raise money and hoping to reapply for another grant this year,” Dachtler said. “We were turned down for one grant we tried for.”

In the spring of 2008, skateboarders Chase Dachtler and Tyler Buesing asked the Gothenburg City Council for help in building a park.

A city-owned lot north of the swimming pool was discussed as a possible location because a basketball court with a concrete surface is already there.

After discussion with a skate park equipment provider, a Lexington minister who helped build Lexington’s skate park and some skateboarders and their parents, the council agreed to pay $10,000 toward equipment and other necessary items for the park if skateboarders came up with $10,000 through grants and fund raising.
