Girls first, boys second at Arnold

ARNOLD—The Brady girls had solid performances across all individual events at the South Loup Invite at Arnold on Thursday but it was the teamwork in all three relays that pushed the Eagles to the top in the team standings.

Brady’s girls finished first with six gold medals while the Eagle boys were second earning one gold.

“All of our relays were outstanding,” said Eagle coach Rich Britten.

In the first running event of the day, the Brady girls 4x800 relay took first in 10:53.1.

“The only other time that relay has been under 11 minutes was at state last year,” the coach said.

In the 4x100 and 4x400, the girls barely missed setting new school records.

On the boys side, the relays posted good times despite not taking first.

“We were up against some tough competition,” Britten said. “The kids all continue to improve.”

Individuals to earn gold medals for the girls were Shaylin McClellen in the long jump, Josie Palmer in the high jump and Valerie Most in the pole vault.

Sawyer Burke was first in the boys long jump.

The Eagles travel to Sutherland for an invite on Friday. Britten said the meet gives the team a chance to see some competitors they’ll face in the district meet next month.

“It will be a good opportunity to see where we are against some of those teams.”

The meet begins with field events at 11:30 a.m. Friday.
