NET wants opinions of Farnam residents

It’s an election year and the candidates have plenty to say. But NET News wants to hear from citizens who live in the Farnam area.

“Campaign Connection 2012: Voter Voices” is an initiative launched in partnership with the Nebraska Library Commission and libraries throughout the state to encourage citizens to share their voice on the issues at stake in this year’s election.

A “Voter Voices” station will be available for recording Wednesdays from 3 to 5 p.m., Thursdays from 4 to 6 p.m. and Saturdays from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Farnam Public Library.

Visitors are encouraged to record their thoughts on important issues using a simple set-up of a web camera and YouTube channel.

NET News would also like citizens to discuss how and why they are impacted by issues, and what questions they would ask candidates for Nebraska’s U.S. Senate seat.

“We are excited to have the ‘Voter Voices’ project available in Dawson County,” said Mike Tobias, senior producer-reporter for NET News. Tobias helped develop the unique election-year project. “We hope many people take a few minutes to participate, so the perspectives of the Farnam area are well-represented.”

Tobias encourages groups with a mission of civic engagement to build events around “Voter Voices” recording, explaining that it is an excellent opportunity for citizens of all ages to visit the library, share their thoughts and help frame political discussion.

NET News will use the recorded content on several media platforms, including YouTube, Facebook, NET Radio, NET Television and the project website: Several “Signature Stories” will air this spring and summer on NET Radio, with an NET Television program scheduled for broadcast later this fall.

The Farnam Public Library is one of more than a dozen Nebraska libraries participating in the “Voter Voices” project.
