Two golfers medal at Holdrege
HOLDREGE—Two Gothenburg golfers conquered hazards throughout the Holdrege Country Club course on Saturday to earn medals at the Duster Invite.
“The front nine at the Holdrege Country Club can be very challenging because the fairways are tree lined and a creek that runs through six out of the nine holes,” said Swede coach Tara Foster.
While several Swede golfers faced penalty strokes due to the hazards, senior Heidi Teahon and junior Mallory McCoy managed to stay away from enough of them to finish in eighth and 15th place respectively.
Teahon shot 51 on the front nine and came back four strokes better on the back for a 98 total.
McCoy carded 54 and 50 to finish with 104.
The Swedes were fifth as a team with a 428 total.
McCook earned the title shooting 369 and taking the top three individual spots.
“Playing smart and conservative was our goal,” Foster said. “It was good to see Heidi and Mallory fight through adversity and pull through with individual medals.”
The Swedes host the Southwest Conference meet at Wild Horse Golf Club on Friday.
Teams include Ainsworth, Broken Bow, Cozad, Gothenburg, Minden, Ogallala and Valentine.
A shotgun start is set for 10 a.m.
Gothenburg also hosts the C-4 district golf meet beginning at 9:30 a.m. on Monday.
