A look at a book
Dudley Fair: Dudley Elementary had its annual book fair in the media center last week. Although figures were unavailable for this year, elementary media specialist Angie Richeson said more than 2,400 books were sold last year—an average of four to five books per student. Richeson said the fair’s goal is to get as many books into the hands of kids as possible and bring the community into the school to meet staff and see what’s happening in school. She added that Scholastic book company officials say that Dudley has one of the bigger fairs in the state at which parents, grandparents and other community members volunteer. Proceeds from the fair help buy books for the classroom. Through a coin drive, Richeson said Scholastic also donates a book to charity for every dollar raised. That meant $1,200 worth of donated books in 2012. Pictured are Sheena Villaluna (left) and Savannah Ostendorf.
