Swedes second at SWC one acts
They’re moving up.
After a third-place finish at the Gothenburg Play Production Invitational, the Swedes received runner-up honors at Southwest Conference Play Production Nov. 19 in the high school performing arts center.
Ogallala finished first with “Peter Pan.”
Noted for outstanding performances in the Swedes’ performance of “Hiding in the Open,” a drama based on a true story during the Holocaust, were Amanda Kowalewski, Morgan Kowalewski, Carlin Daharsh, Betsy Potter and Madison Costello.
Co-director Lori Long said the performance was a true test of “who we are and what we want to accomplish.”
“While it was not our best performance, they stepped up to the challenge and pushed each other when things didn’t go exactly as planned,” Long said.
Long said Drake Brand and Tyler Block, in particular, took on roles outside their usual parts to fill in for absent cast member Brett Mann.
She said the chorus, at the end of the production, was commended by all the judges for its dedication and precision.
“And our lead and supporting characters are coming into their own,” Long said. “I can tell you the best is yet to come.”
Besides Gothenburg and Ogallala, other SWC schools participating were Cozad, Broken Bow, Minden, Valentine and Ainsworth.
The public will get one more chance to see the Swedes perform.
The Swedes will host B-5 district play competition on Saturday, Dec. 1 in the performing arts center. Gothenburg will perform at 1:15 p.m.
