Historical LORE

Over the past couple of weeks, local farmer Mark Ostergard has been in the process of dismantling what once was the N and S Elevator, on the northwest corner of where Lake Avenue intersects with Union Pacific Railroad tracks. The Gothenburg Area History book says the grain elevator was built by T.L. Carroll in the late 1800s. Some of the subsequent owners have included Ross Price, Ray Ingalls of Kearney, Roy Corrigan, Milford, Scott and Joe France, Jim and Chauncey Bates, Burt and Ross Ristine and Ostergard. Ostergard tore down the structure because of its deteriorating condition. The building was on land owned by the railroad.
