Boys win four gold medals at Cozad Inv.
Gothenburg boys came home Friday with four first place performances from the Cozad Invitational.
“Our kids competed hard,” Swede coach Steve Reeves said. “We (use the meet to) kind of get tuned up for districts.”
Sophomore Tanner Borchardt provided the top Swede performance of the day. His winning shot put effort of 55-4 advances him to No. 3 on the Swede all-time chart.
“For a sophomore, that’s a very nice throw,” Reeves said. “We know that’s going to be a good event for him as well as the discus.”
The discus gold went to Borchardt, also, with a winning toss of 151-1.
Preston Franzen covered the 300-meter intermediate hurdles in 40.82 seconds for the gold medal.
“Preston ran an aggressive race and ran a pretty clean race,” the coach said. “He only banged one hurdle.”
The only high jumper to clear 5-10 was sophomore gold medal winner Jacob Clark.
All attention now goes to the Class B-5 district meet Thursday at Lexington where state qualifying spots will be on the line.
“This week is always kind of a stressful week,” Reeves said. “Hopefully our kids will perform. It will be interesting to see what happens.”
The field events are scheduled to begin at 12:30 with the running events following at 2.
No team scores were kept.
