Nurse practitioner joins Gothenburg Medical Arts

An increase in women’s health services in Gothenburg is what Ann Scott hopes to provide.

Scott, a 1997 graduate of Broken Bow High School, joined the Gothenburg Medical Arts staff on Aug. 12 as a nurse practitioner.

To become a nurse practitioner, Scott graduated with a nursing degree from the University of Nebraska Medical Center from the University of Nebraska-Kearney in 2009 and received her master’s degree in nursing from Creighton University in 2011.

Scott spent the last two years at Lexington’s Tri County Hospital in urgent care.

“The transition is different coming from Lexington because of the cultural diversities there included with what I was doing,” Scott said.

She said she dealt with injuries that needed immediate attention. In Gothenburg, she works with individuals that have chronic and serious illnesses, and does some urgent care work.

“Gothenburg is a nice town with nice people,” Scott said. “I am glad to be here. When I was in school, my goal was to practice in this town.”

Scott is married to Chris Scott who works for Union Pacific Railroad in North Platte. The couple has a preschool-aged son, Roman.

She also helps Dr. Craig Bartruff do rounds at the Brady Rural Health Clinic Monday and Tuesday mornings.

Bartruff said he knew Scott was a good hire when she was still a student at Kearney.

“While she was completing her studies, she worked at the hospital and I was impressed with her knowledge of medicine,” Bartruff said. “She was very good with the patients and applied her knowledge efficiently.”

Scott replaced Brittany Weaver who returned to Montana.

“I’m glad she was able to step in so quickly and fill the needs of the patients,” Bartruff said. “There was not a change in service; she stepped right in and took off.”

Her office hours in Gothenburg are Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m to 5 p.m. On Friday, she works from 8 a.m. to noon.

Scott works under the direction of Dr. Craig Bartruff who owns the practice.
