Loos excited about opportunity in town
David Loos wants to be part of the Gothenburg community without question but his specific role is still unknown.
“I want to be a healthy part of this community, whether that means I means I meet people through ministry or at events,” Loos said. “I just want to meet people and be approachable.”
Loos is the new associate pastor of worship and youth ministry at First Baptist Church.
“Getting involved with youth and their events is important,” Loos said. “I would like to see where they are spriritually and help them grow.”
He took over the position Sept. 9, after seven months of interviews and a couple of visits.
“I had to take a couple weeks to pray about the situation,” Loos said.
He and his wife, Carly, took time in late July to pack and say their goodbyes before moving from Lincoln.
Loos grew up in Lincoln where he attended Lincoln Christian High School and graduated in 2009.
He studied in seminary for a semester at the Christian School of Antioch in Lincoln before he attended classes at Southeast Community College, which is also in Lincoln.
While Loos’s education is still being completed, he has gained experience at Maranatha Bible Camp near Maxwell.
He was a camper at the camp in 2001 and 2002 and became a cabin leader in 2003 and worked in that position until 2008.
During that same summer, Loos became a member of the summer mission team and that is where he began working with the ministry of campers, he said.
“I started sharing ministry with the youth and planning sermons with other staff,” Loos said. “I was more involved with the spriritual side of camp from then on.”
Loos would like to reach out to kids in Gothenburg, noting that youth groups are an option but he wants more of a lifestyle relationship and not something forced.
