County commissioners set levies for 2013-14
Gothenburg trails Cozad, Lex
Gothenburg’s property tax levy ranks third among the three largest cities in Dawson County.
County commissioners set 2013-14 levies for the county at an October meeting.
Cozad remains the highest with a levy of 2.378 while Lexington is second at 2.177.
Gothenburg has the fourth highest property tax levy of all Dawson County cities for the 2013-14 budget year set at 2.045.
Sumner has the third highest tax levy at 2.119 even with a drop from 2.131 last year.
The Village of Farnam has the lowest in the county at 1.880.
At their Oct. 15 meeting, commissioners approved a mutual aid agreement between Dawson County and the Eddyville Volunteer Fire Department.
If there is a fire or emergency in Eddyville, Dawson County will send available resources to help.
County roads superintendent Jon Mooberry said the arrangement says if Eddyville needs assistance, personnel or equipment, the county will try and supply it.
“The agreement has always been there but it’s unwritten,” Mooberry said. “Writing an arrangement gives it a clearer definition and makes us a point of contact.”
In other business, commissioners approved Central Nebraska Public Power and Irrigation District’s plans to expand the Johnson Lake hike and bike trail.
Mooberry said the agreement covers specific locations where the trail crosses county roads and that CNPPID is responsible for the trail and has met requirements for building the trail.
