Balanced scoring overwhelms Wolves
Eagles get off to a 3-0 start
Brady’s guards scored 38 of the Eagles’ points in last Saturday’s 59-27 win over the Twin Loup Wolves.
Even more impressive was the Eagles’ ability to limit scoring by Twin Loup, head coach Lance Arterburn said.
“I was most pleased with our defense in the first and third quarters,” Arterburn said.
Brady allowed only five points in the first quarter while racking up 14 points of its own.
At the beginning of the season, Arterburn and the girls set a goal of scoring 15 points each quarter. In the first half, they scored 14 points in the first quarter, and 16 in the second to lead at halftime 20-16.
In the third, Brady’s defense shined as the Wolves scored only one point on a free throw. They added eight more in the fourth quarter.
Brady outscored the Wolves 29-9 in the second half winning easily.
Arterburn said the girls played well and stepped up.
“Our guards shot well. They shot like we knew they could, Arterburn said.
Brady was led in scoring by Valerie Most with 15 points.
Brady will test its 3-0 record at Hitchcock County Friday and against Loomis at home on Saturday.
“In past years, these have been two of our biggest games,” Arterburn said. “Both teams are still looking for their identities and will be tough.”
Nonetheless, Arterburn said Brady will get back to its philosophy of improvement.
“We need to focus on us, get better and do things we need to do,” Arterburn said. “These teams have got talent. We have to work on improving.”
