SATURDAY SURPRISE: The occupants of a mobile home in the 400 block of Lake Avenue were lucky to escape serious injury when a Chevy pickup, driven by local resident Bill Haynes, struck the structure Saturday about noon.
Gothenburg Volunteer Fire Department chief Mark Ballmer said Haynes had suffered some kind of medical condition when driving and was taken to Gothenburg Memorial Hospital by ambulance. Ballmer said Haynes was southbound on Lake when he lost control of his vehicle and hit a car and a four wheeler on the Pony Express Chevrolet lot on the west side of the street. Ballmer said Haynes’ truck then pushed the four wheeler across the street and into the mobile home which was occupied by a couple of kids and an adult. “They were pretty shaken up,” Ballmer said, noting that the impact knocked the home off its foundation. Ballmer didn’t have a monetary damage amount but said it was extensive. The fire chief also didn’t know whether Haynes was still hospitalized.
