Eagles storm past SMC Cyclones

The Brady girls basketball team traveled to Stapleton Saturday and stirred up the Cyclones in Brady fashion.

The Eagles trailed after the first quarter but scored 45 points in the next two periods to cruise to a 65-40 victory.

The girls didn’t play well in the first quarter, head coach Lance Arterburn said. It was SMC’s parents night and game of the week and the Eagles got a little flustered leading to a 10-6 Cyclone advantage.

What seemed to be an overwhelmed Brady team regrouped and hit SMC with a 20 spot in the second quarter.

“I knew if we kept with the gameplan we’d get opportunities to score after starting the game with cold shooting,” Arterburn said.

The girls settled down, limited SMC to four second-quarter points and led 26-14 at halftime.

The third quarter was no different for Brady or SMC in terms of Eagle production.

Autumn Hild led a scoring barrage hitting outside shots to help widen Brady’s lead to 49-26 going into the fourth frame.

“Our shooters got hot in the third,” Arterburn said. “Autumn knocked down some outside shots to get us going.”

With a comfortable lead, Brady was patient on offense throughout the final stanza. Both teams scored 14 points, but the game ended with a 25-point margin in favor of the Eagles.

Arterburn said he was pleased with the girls’ good defense and how they took care of the ball in the second half.

Hild led the Eagles in scoring with 16 points.
