Balanced Brady attack beats Longhorns
Sitorius leads Eagles with 25 points
Eight boys scored in Brady’s basketball game against Hyannis Thursday.
The Eagles were propelled to a 66-50 victory over the Longhorns behind Nate Sitorius’ 25-point night.
“It’s always good to see a number of kids in the scoring column,” head coach Dave Jacobs said. “It was good game for us and we needed that win.”
Brady started the game in man-to-man defense but the Longhorns went ahead 14-2 before the Eagles switched to a 2-3 zone defense.
The Eagles battled back to trail only 18-12 at the first quarter break.
Once Brady established its press and zone defense, the boys took the lead midway through the second quarter and wouldn’t let it go, Jacobs said.
“The boys played hard and aggressive,” he said. “I saw some spirit and a spark we haven’t had in recent games.”
Brady outscored the Longhorns 17-5 to lead 29-23 at halftime.
“During the break the kids wanted to make sure and finish against Hyannis,” Jacobs said. “We hadn’t done that in previous games.”
Strong defense continued by the Eagles as they limited the opponent to five points in the third frame and took a commanding 45-28 lead with one stanza remaining.
Offense was the name of the game in the fourth period. Both teams scored over 20 points but Brady had a comfortable lead until time expired.
However, Jacobs was slightly worried about the teams’ defense.
“You never want to give up a lot of points in the final period. I wish we could’ve done a little better,” he said.
