Eagles escape Hyannis with win

Most leads team with double-double

The Brady girls basketball team trailed Hyannis by four at halftime but gutted out a 56-54 win against the Longhorns Friday.

Both teams were aggressive and found success in the half court during the first quarter, Brady coach Lance Arterburn said, as Brady led 18-16.

In the second frame, Brady struggled mightily as the Eagles managed only four points.

“We were committing turnovers on some possessions, and on possessions we got open looks we didn’t make them,” Arterburn said.

Trailing 26-22 going into the third stanza Brady made it a point to get to the rim.

“Playing aggressive eliminated our turnovers in the second half,” Arterburn said, “and we finished at the hoop better.”

However, Brady still trailed going into the final frame. A two-point deficit at the break grew to 11 with five minutes left, Arterburn said the Eagles did a great job of coming back and the team showed composure.

“It wasn’t our best effort and the girls could’ve given up,” Arterburn said. “I’m proud of our girls. They fought and finished the game how they needed to. With a win.”

He complimented the Longhorns saying they have played well lately and their young players have shown talent.

“They have a good chance to come out of their district,” he said.”

Valerie Most posted a double-double for Brady. She scored 16 points and snagged 10 rebounds.
