Ostendorf will call Hastings home

Doane, Wesleyan considered, too.

After taking three visits to a number of Great Plains Athletic Conference schools Ross Ostendorf decided Hastings College was where he wanted to continue his education and athletic career.

Ostendorf signed a letter of intent last Wednesday to play baseball for the Broncos, a member of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics that finished the 2013 season 14-28.

He also had interest from Doane College in Crete and Nebraska Wesleyan University in Lincoln to play baseball.

“I liked the school and the fact it was close to home,” Ostendorf said. “It had the best feel.”

He said the coaching staff at Hastings has him starting out on its junior varsity program but there will be opportunity to move up to varsity.

His parents, Curtis and Beth, said they helped guide Ross’s decision but it fell on him to make the choice for his future.

“Ultimately we wanted him to go where he would be happiest and feel comfortable,” Beth said.

Both added they were happy with his choice.

Ostendorf received an academic and athletic scholarship and plans to major in agribusiness.
