Bell ringing could raise $$

I would like to propose an idea (maybe put a bug in someone’s ear). Every time I walk past the fire hall, I get the urge to ring the bell on the pole in front. My idea would be for some energetic, organizational folks (unlike myself) to have a raffle for wannabe bell ringers to get a chance at winning an opportunity to ring the bell. I think a bell ringing ceremony could begin festivities at the fireman’s ball.

I would of course win the raffle, but it’s not all about me. Proceeds could be used to buy items that might make our volunteer firemen’s jobs easier and safer. They deserve the best we can give them. I can’t recall that I ever really thanked them for saving my house.

I also can’t recall ever hearing the bell being rung and don’t know it’s history, but would be interested in learning some. Other bell ringing opportunities could be incorporated in the future. Independence Day would be one, as John Adams proposed in a letter to his wife.

I hope everyone had a chance to attend a Memorial Day service, to honor our country’s finest. It appears that trouble inside the Veterans Administration has reached a sickening new level. Waiting lists have been a problem for many years, but now it seems the Obama administration has chosen to solve the problem through attrition (thinning of the herd). The scandal began with Phoenix, but is spreading to a growing number of facilities around the country, where falsified records were being used to hide how long veterans were waiting to see doctors at VA hospitals.

In the meantime vets have been dying before ever getting a chance to see a doctor. This is government run health care. This is what “idiot” Sarah Palin referred to as death panels. Yessiree, you’re gonna love Obamacare.

On a lighter note. While veterans are being disrespected (dying), imprisoned traitor Pvt. Bradley Manning’s world is looking up. Manning was convicted in 2013 and sentenced to 35 years in prison for stealing 750,000 classified defense department documents. His taxpayer-funded request to change his name from Bradley to Chelsea was approved last month and now his sex change operation is being fast tracked by the Obama administration. Isn’t it wonderful the things big government can do? Only when it chooses to.

We still live in an exceptional country, but other countries around the world take notice and can see that our government cannot be trusted. We need to take notice ourselves and take action to resolve this situation.
