Two-year football schedules released
Swedes to play all SWC schools.
The Gothenburg football team will remain in the C1-9 district for the next two years but the Swedes’ schedule takes on a new look for the 2010 and 2011 seasons.
The Nebraska School Activities Association released the two-year schedules for all classes on Feb. 3.
Gothenburg’s Class C-1 District 9 opponents will not change. They remain Ainsworth, Broken Bow, Cozad and Valentine.
Non-district draws for the Swedes will be Ord, Minden, Kimball and Ogallala. The Indians dropped to Class C-1 due to falling enrollment.
Swede coach Craig Haake said his top two requests for non-district matchups were Minden and Ogallala.
The two teams, along with Gothenburg’s district opponents, allow the Swedes to play all Southwest Conference schools in each of the next two seasons.
“I kind of like the idea of playing the traditional Southwest Conference schools,” Haake said.
The 193-mile road trip west this fall to Kimball isn’t something Haake is looking forward to.
“I like to stay along I-80,” he said, “but that’s a little farther west than I was thinking. I guess it could be worse.”
The Swedes will open the season both of the next two years with a Week 0 game against Ord, meaning the team will start competition a week earlier than most schools in the state. In 2010, that date is Aug. 27.
All of Gothenburg’s football games for 2010 have been scheduled on Fridays with the exception of the Week 8 game against Ogallala, which will be Thursday night.
