Herrmann was born June 30, 1943, in Grand Island to Larry and Evelyn (Johnson) Herrmann. His younger years were spent in Grand Island. He later relocated to Salt Lake City, UT, with his mother and sister. This is where he graduated from high school in 1962. Following graduation he enlisted in the Air Force for four years. He returned to Nebraska to be near his father and attended college at Hastings.
He spent his adult years in Lexington doing different jobs. He participated, with friends, on a bowling team and golf team for years. His father had retired from the railroad which started his life-long passion for trains. He also enjoyed coin collecting.
Herrmann met his life’s companion, Barbara Miller, and they were united in marriage on Nov. 1, 2002, at Auburn. His last 26 years of work were at Electric Fixture and Supply Company in Lexington, retiring in 2006. After retirement he continued to golf. He always had projects he was working on along with his “Honey Do List.”
He loved and always bragged about his family. When he and Barbara were married he welcomed Barbara’s daughter, Angie, as his own, along with the grandchildren, which he adored, family members said. The kids would sit and listen to his stories, and most of the time they were very long stories.
?Herrmann was diagnosed with multiple myeloma on Nov. 8, 2008. Through the years of treatment his body wore down and this last year has been a real struggle.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother’s long-time companion, Lorie Bliven; and, granddaughter, Madison Amia.
