Charlene Devine, 66 - May 05, 2013Charlene Rae Devine, 66, of Gothenburg passed away Sunday, May 5, 2013, at her home in Gothenburg following a courageous battle with cancer.
Services will be conducted at Zion Lutheran Church on Thursday, May 9, at 10 a.m. Interment will take place at Fort McPherson National Cemetery near Maxwell.
A visitation will be at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel of Gothenburg on Wednesday from 1 to 8 p.m. with family present from 5-7 p.m.
Devine was born May 13, 1946, at Gothenburg, daughter of Harry James Crawford, Sr. and Lorraine Elbera (Franzen) Crawford.
She graduated from Wasson High School in Colorado Springs, CO, in 1964.
On April 2, 1966, she married Ron Devine at Colorado Springs. To this union, two daughters were born.
Devine was employed as a tax preparer for numerous years. She was a 4-H mom to many, and enjoyed collecting porcelain dolls, shopping and going to garage sales, according to family members. She was a very generous person who shared many of the things she purchased with the less fortunate.
Her greatest treasures were her grandchildren and she loved attending their many activities, said family.
She was a member of the Birthday Club, Card Club, Red Hat Society and Lutheran Church Women and served as a Luther League sponsor, Meals on Wheels volunteer, Sunday School teacher and a Vacation Bible School teacher.
Devine was preceded in death by: her father, Harry James Crawford, Sr.; her mother, Lorraine Elbera Crawford; a brother, Harry “Butch” Crawford, Jr.; mother-in-law, Cora Evelyn Devine.
Survivors include: her husband, Ron Devine of Gothenburg; her two daughters—Kelli (Rod) Mattson of Wahoo and Kristi Phillipson of Omaha; five grandchildren—Colter Mattson, Chaleigh Mattson, Cadie Mattson, Emma Phillipson and Brody Phillipson; a sister, JoAnn Norris; brother, Daniel (Daryl) Crawford; her father-in-law, Morris Devine; numerous extended family members.
