Diane Penner, 61 - May 25, 2013Diane Rae (Devine) Penner, 61, of Grand Island, originally of Gothenburg, died Saturday, May 25, 2013, at home surrounded by family.
Services took place on Friday, May 31, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church of Grand Island with the Rev. William Pavuk officiating. Graveside services were conducted at the Farnam Cemetery with the Rev. Larry Viter officiating.
Penner was born May 19, 1952, at Cozad to Wayne and Norma (Slack) Devine.
She grew up and attended school in Gothenburg, graduating with the Class of 1971. She also graduated from Queen Anne Beauty School in Kearney.
Penner moved to Grand Island in 1994, then she and her daughter moved to North Carolina for a few years, returning to Grand Island in 2005.
Over the years she was employed with Hald’s Floral in Cozad, Dave’s Dairy Bar and as secretary for the Methodist Church in Gothenburg, as a drafter for the State of Nebraska and as a makeup artist for the annual Miss Mid-Plains Beauty Pageant in Gothenburg.
?She had a tremendous perseverance and strength, despite that her health was an issue, according to family members. Her wonderful attitude and outlook allowed her to enjoy playing the piano, playing for many church and school functions. She also loved to sing with her children.
?Among numerous other things, she will be fondly remembered for her amazing sense of humor, family said.
Penner was preceded in death by her grandparents.
Survivors include: her parents, Wayne and Norma of Grand Island; a son and daughter-in-law, Derrick (Gina) Devine of Richmond, VA; her daughter, Rebecca Penner of Grand Island; brother and sister-in-law, Lennie (Barbara) Devine of Grand Island; a grandson, Tony; numerous cousins and friends.
