Bruce Kennedy, 78 - June 04, 2013Bruce L. Kennedy, 78, of Gothenburg died Tuesday, June 4, 2013, at Gothenburg.
A visitation will take place at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel of Gothenburg on Friday, June 7, from 1 to 8 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the First Presbyterian Church on Wednesday, June 12, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Matt Coplen officiating. A private interment will take place at the Gothenburg Cemetery.
Kennedy was born July 27, 1934, at Page, son of J.M. “Ket” Kennedy and Catherine (Loy) Kennedy. He grew up at Page and Ainsworth and graduated from Ainsworth High School.
He served his country with the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1956, and later attended the University of Nebraska.
On Dec. 22, 1957, he married Joanne Carr at Ainsworth. He lived at Gothenburg for the last 38 years and was employed with Cargill, retiring in 1996 after over 20 years of service.
Kennedy was an active member of the Gothenburg Presbyterian Church and a former Gosper and Dawson County CASA board member.
He enjoyed antiques, flower gardening, and especially spending time with his children and grandchildren, according to family members.
Kennedy was preceded in death by: his wife, Joanne Kay Kennedy; an infant child; his parents, Ket and Catherine; a grandson, Alex Weckesser; brother, Duane Kennedy; father-in-law, Armand Carr; brother-in-law, William Sorensen.
Survivors include: his daughter, Dana (Mike Weckesser) Kennedy of Reston, VA; two sons—Jeffrey M. Kennedy of Gothenburg and Jason (Anne) Kennedy of McCook; five grandchildren—Tyler Weckesser of Reston, Andrew Kennedy and Kristin Kennedy, both of Kearney, Mari Kennedy and Anna Kennedy, both of McCook; two sisters—Jeane Sorensen of O’Neill and Louise Spear of Ann Arbor, MI; mother-in-law, Miriam Carr of Springview; brother-in-law, Harley (Sharon) Carr of Omaha; a sister-in-law, Helen Kennedy of Texas; special friend, Carol (Rose) Einspahr of Liberty, MO; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
