Robert Hinz, 88 - November 02, 2013Robert Leo Hinz, 88, of Marysville, WA, and husband of a Gothenburg native, passed away Saturday, Nov. 2, 2013, at his home in Marysville.
Services were conducted on Thursday, Nov. 7, at the North Cascade Seventh Day Adventist Church on Highway 20 in Burlington, WA, with the Rev. Ofa Langi officiating.
A visitation will take place at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel of Gothenburg on Monday, Nov. 11, from 1 to 8 p.m.
Graveside services will take place at the Gothenburg Cemetery on Nov. 12 at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Luis Contreras officiating.
Hinz was born March 1, 1925, at Grand Island to William and Mildred (Crabtree) Hinz.
He grew up at Central City, attending school and later attended Nebraska Central College until his senior year when he was drafted into the U.S. Army.
Prior to his Army service, he was invited to play for the Green Bay Packers. After his discharge, he worked as a meat cutter for Safeway, and later as a supervisor at the ordinance plant in Grand Island.
Hinz met and married Gothenburg native Dorothy Bowman Jones on April 12, 1952, at Columbus. The couple resided at Grand Island until moving to North Bend, WA, in 1954.
In 1955, they moved to Anacortes, WA, where he was employed with Shell Oil, residing there until 1977 when he was transferred to Baton Rouge, LA.
On April 1, 1982, he retired and he and his wife moved to Sedro-Woolley, WA.
Hinz was a member of the North Cascade Seventh-day Adventist Church in Burlington.
He enjoyed bike riding and collecting coins, according to family members.
Hinz was preceded in death by: his parents, William and Mildred; his wife, Dorothy in December of 2010; a son, David Jones; a brother, Jerry Hinz; granddaughter, Tammy; grandson, Eric.
Survivors include: his children—Sandra Kay (Joe) Pirak of Tulalip, WA, Terry (Jean) Jones of Brookfield, NH, Julia (Jerry) Bushree of Commerce City, CO, and Kristin (Tommy) Sivula of Long Beach, CA; seven grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and 17 great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Richard Hinz of Everett, WA; brother-in-law, Cal Bowman of Gothenburg; numerous nieces and nephews.
