Charles Pitkin, 58 - April 08, 2009
Charles A. “Chuck” Pitkin, 58, of Callaway died Tuesday, March 31, 2009, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.
Services were held on Friday, April 3, at the United Methodist Church at Callaway with the Rev. Jerry Schwarz officiating. Burial was at the Rose Hill Cemetery at Callaway.
Pitkin was born May 22, 1950, at Callaway to Charles John and Mildred Anna (Lange) Pitkin.
He attended elementary school at West Cottonwood District No. 254, graduated from Callaway High School with the Class of 1968 and then went on to further his education at Mid-Plains Community College in North Platte, graduating in 1970.
After college, he returned to Callaway where he worked as a carpenter. In the 1970’s, he went back to his love of farming, according to family members. He raised Black Angus cattle and Targhee sheep, especially enjoying raising his Angus bulls.
Pitkin was a man of many talents and could fix anything, family members said. In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting.
He had three children by his first marriage, and met the love of his life, Gayle (Fripp) Evens, in December of 2006. The couple were married July 7, 2007, at the United Methodist Church in Callaway. His wife brought to this union her three children.
?Pitkin was always very active in the Methodist Church, his love of the Lord and love of children led him to teach Sunday School and junior high youth group, according to family members. He was also an active member of the Emmaus community.
He was preceded in death by: his father, Charles; a sister, Beverly.
Survivors include: his wife, Gayle Pitkin of Callaway; his mother, Mildred Pitkin of Callaway; his children—Charlie Pitkin of Chadron, Katie and Emily Pitkin of Fairbury; stepchildren—Peter Evens of Aptos, CA, Maria Evens of Newman, CA, and Timothy (Susanna) Evens of Seattle, WA; six step-grandchildren; a brother, Ken (Jill) Pitkin of Callaway; nephews—Ryan and Chad Pitkin.
Memorials are suggested to the family for later designation.
