A memorial celebration of life service was conducted on Sunday, Feb. 9, at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church at Elwood with the Rev. Michael Wolff officiating. Inurnment will take place at a later date at the family cemetery in North Dakota.
Carlberg was born Feb. 9, 1959, at Bismarck, ND, to Elmer and Esther (Magstadt) Lemke. She was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Mott, ND, and graduated high school from Mott Lincoln High School in 1977.
She was united in marriage to Eric Carlberg on June 21, 1995, at Omaha. The couple moved to Johnson Lake in 1999.
Carlberg and her husband were co-managers for LakeShore Marina Resort at Johnson Lake. The couple assisted the owners in building a successful, community-driven business, and in the process, made many lifelong friendships through this endeavor, according to family members.
Her employment history included restaurant and hotel management, and she was currently working as a tax advisor for H&R Block of Gothenburg. She had just completed her real estate license and board exams to sell real estate for Doran Post & Associates of Lexington.
Carlberg was a people person and wanted everyone around her to be happy, family members said. She loved life and her most rewarding career was being a mother and grandmother. She also loved to travel, was a “foodie” and never met a stranger.
She spent many hours at the Elwood High School gymnasium cheering on her daughters through all of their activities. Their house was always home to all of the children’s friends, and was known as “mom” to many, family said. Although her life was cut short too soon, her infectious smile and memory will live on forever.
