William Jack Bartak, 88 - March 18, 2014William “Jack” Bartak, 88, of Broken Bow passed away Tuesday, March 18, 2014, at Heritage Hall Nursing Home in Broken Bow.
Services will take place Wednesday, March 26, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Merna at 10:30 a.m. with the Rev. Ryan Loeslie officiating, and Govier Brothers Mortuary in charge of the arrangements.
A visitation will be conducted on Tuesday March 25, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Govier Bros. Mortuary with family members present from 6 to 8 p.m.
Bartak was born Oct. 28, 1925, to Frank and Ruth (Anderson) Bartak at a family home on Cliff Table, west of Merna. As a boy, he attended school at Sunflower School District 151.
He married Edythe Lauer on May 23, 1948, at the American Lutheran Church near Gothenburg. The couple moved to a farm on Cliff Table and lived in that area until November of 2012 when they moved to Broken Bow. In May of 2013, Jack and Edythe celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary.
Bartak was a faithful member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church of Merna where he served on the church council in various offices for many years. He also served his community as a member of the Cliff School Board, Cliff Township Road Board and the Merna Coop Bank Board.
He was preceded in death by: his parents, Frank and Ruth; daughter-in-law, Jeanne Bartak; brothers—Frank and Clyde; a sister, Kathryn Mannel.
Survivors include: his wife, Edythe; his sons—Bradley (Barb) Bartak of Merna and Steve Bartak of Ainsworth; daughters—Marilyn (Tom) Reese of Atlanta, GA, and Marcia (Marvin) Swan of Grant; 14 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren; a sister, Phyllis (Keith) Sommer of Merna; numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorials are suggested to the Immanuel Lutheran Church, the American Cancer Society and Custer County Foundation.
