Lyle (Dwaine) Folkers, 80 - April 30, 2014

Lyle “Dwaine” Folkers, 80, of Gothenburg passed away Wednesday, April 30, 2014, at the Gothenburg Memorial Hospital.
Services were conducted at the American Lutheran Church on Monday, May 5, with the Rev. Jon Mapa officiating. Interment took place at the Gothenburg Cemetery.
Folkers was born May 26, 1933, at Gothenburg, son of Fred and Sophia (Peterson) Folkers. He graduated from Gothenburg High School in 1950.
He was called to duty with the United States Army in 1953 at the end of the Korean War, and was stationed with the 32nd Anti-Aircraft Artillery Brigade in Upper Heyford, England.
During his service with the Army, he married Donna Hudson of Lexington on Aug. 15, 1953, at Las Cruces, NM.
Following his discharge, he and his wife moved to a family farm where they began building their family and farming career.
Folkers was employed at the Gothenburg Haymill and K&K Appliances before becoming a life-long farmer.
He was a lifetime member of the American Lutheran Church of Gothenburg and served as a church councilman. He was also a lifetime member of the American Legion and VFW, and enjoyed being a part of the “Ampride Coffee Club” of Goth­enburg, family members said.
?Folkers was preceded in death by: his son, Craig; his parents, Fred and Sophia; two brothers—Wilber and Walt Gerdes.
Survivors include: his wife of 60 years, Donna Folkers of Goth­enburg; sons—Doug (Marcia) Folkers of Littleton, CO, and Scott (Christy) Folkers of Kearney; his daughter, Penny Thorman of Gothenburg; a sister, Margaret Davis of Squaw Valley, CA; 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Memorials are suggested to the American Lutheran Church and the Gothenburg Volunteer Fire Department.
