Opal Pearson, 94 - July 12, 2014

Opal R. Pearson, 94, of Gothenburg and Cozad passed away Saturday, July 12, 2014, at McCook.
Services took place on Tuesday, July 15, at the Berryman Funeral Home Chapel in Cozad with the Rev. Doug Smith officiating. Burial was at the Gothenburg Cemetery.
Pearson was born to Johnny and Olive Berryman on May 12, 1920. She graduated from Cozad High School in 1938, and remained an avid reader.
In 1941, she married Kermit Pearson of Gothenburg. To this union five children were born.
She and her family resided and farmed north of Gothenburg, and later north of Cozad, until 1970. She was also employed for 16 years with the Cozad Schools cafeteria.
Pearson was a faithful, lifelong member of Parkview Methodist Church as well as a member of Eastern Star, the Shriners Auxiliary and several local clubs.
As a longtime member of the Cozad Modern Homemakers Club, she carried on the task of giving birthday cards to nursing home residents at both the Cozad nursing home and Hillcrest Nursing Home in McCook until her death.
?She was preceded in death by: her husband of almost 60 years, Kermit; sisters—Arlene Christensen of Long Beach, CA, and Elsye McNulty of Cozad; her grandson, Jeff Pearson of North Platte; two infant brothers.
Survivors include: her two sisters—Lavon Pape of Gothenburg and Elaine Pirrone of Long Beach; her five children—Gary Pearson of North Platte, Steven Pearson of Columbia, MO, Kathy Pearson of San Anselmo, CA, Karen Fahrenbruch of McCook and Kay Hall of Kittridge, CO; 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Eastern Star Masonic Home for Children, the Cozad Grand Generation Center of Cozad or donor’s choice.
