Robert Bullock, 85 - July 12, 2014

Robert “Bob” D. Bullock, 85, of Gothenburg passed away Saturday, July 12, 2014, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.
Services will be conducted at the First United Methodist Church on Wednesday, July 16, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Joel Plisek officiating. Interment will be at the Gothenburg Cemetery.
Bullock was born Feb. 25, 1929, at Gothenburg, the son of Cloyd Valentine and Harriet Johanna (Golden) Bullock.
He graduated from Gothenburg High School and was a member of the 1948 state champion football team.
Bullock served his country during the Korean Conflict for two years and was medically discharged. He continued in the patriotic spirit the rest of his life, according to family members.
He married Lois Newbrey on Jan. 27, 1956, at the First United Methodist Church in Gothenburg. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, according to family members.
Through the years, he had owned a Linkers Super Service and was employed at Farmland Service Coop and at the Gothenburg airport. He also helped pick corn for Darin Keiser and worked at Monsanto sorting corn.
Bullock was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the American Legion Post 64 for over 50 years, and was the commander in 1973-74. His Legion activities included helping with the baseball program, junior law cadet program, placing flags and crosses on veteran’s graves, and raising money for Fourth of July fireworks.
?Bullock was involved in the “40 & 8” and was the recipient of the Nebraska Legionnaires Cody Kerr Award for community service. He volunteered his time and energy to many other projects through the years, family members said. He also enjoyed playing Santa Clause for numerous years and Bubbles the Clown at parades.
He was a former Boy Scout leader and an Eagle Scout. He was involved in Apples For Teachers and was awarded the Ak-Sar-Ben Good Neighbor Award and the Legion Horse Collar Award.
Bullock was preceded in death by: his parents, Cloyd and Harriet; his wife, Lois; a great-grandson, Cory Pflaster; brother, Jackie; sister, Dorrene.
Survivors include: his son, Brian (Cheri) Bullock; his daughters—Deborah (Larry) Horstman and Laura Kelly and Bruce Wootan; grandchildren—Becky, Jennie, Colleen, Michael and Stephanie; great-grandchildren—Kyle, Tyler, Kinsey Belle, Autumn, Chase, Isiah, Morgan, Noah, Dakota, Amaya, Cayden, Lexi, Clinton and Bralynn.
