Dorothy Taylor, 88 - October 08, 2014

Dorothy Peterson Wagner Taylor, 88, of Modesto, CA, formerly of Gothenburg, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2014, at Modesto.
A celebration of life service will take place on Saturday, Nov. 1, at 11 a.m. at the banquet room of Jacob’s on McHenry Avenue.
Taylor was born in 1926, the only daughter of the eight surviving children born on a rural farm in Ingham to Oscar and Josie Peterson.
Following her graduation from Gothenburg High School in 1943, she traveled to Washington State, Utah and California.
On Oct. 12, 1946, she married Florbert (Bert) Wagner at St. Paul, MN. In 1958, her husband tragically passed away, making her a widow with six young children to raise.
Taylor worked hard, often working two jobs in order to keep her family together, and in 1968, she moved her family to Concord, CA, and the following year to Modesto.
Crediting her experience on the rural farm of Nebraska, she became a USDA meat inspector and worked at local food processing plants.
She married Arthur “Art” Taylor of Modesto in 1973. He later passed away in 1981.
In 1983, she met Paul Spears, a recent widower, and the couple made a home together at Big Oak Flat. They spent many years traveling in their motor home.
Taylor enjoyed telling anyone who would listen stories of her motor home travels as well as her life experiences growing up on the farm and being the lone female among all those brothers.
?She was always the life of the party, loved life and was a fighter, according to family members. Despite numerous hardships and painful losses, she retained her indomitable spirit and humor, and will be profoundly missed by family and friends.
?Taylor was preceded in death by: her parents, Oscar and Josie Peterson; husbands, Bert Wagner and Arthur Taylor; her sons—Bob Wagner and Brad Wagner; brothers—Harold, Bill, Lloyd (Priscilla), Glenn, Stanley and Veryl; infant sisters—Marion and Marjorie.
Survivors include: her children—Bill Wagner, Sue (Paul) Thorpe, Polly Findlen and Laurie (John) Neumann; daughter-in-law, Kate Wagner; her brothers—Blaine (Arlene) Peterson and Doug (Vickie) Peterson of Gothenburg, Larry (Judy) Peterson of Lake Havasu, AZ, and Brian (Barb) Peterson of Loveland CO; her companion, Paul Spears, and his children—Terry and Paula, and grandchildren and great-grandchildren; three sisters-in-law—Marvelle, JoAnn and Thelma Peterson; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to the Community Hospice, 4368 Spyres Way, Modesto, CA 95356.
